The Manufacturing Industries
In Nigeria, apart from the widely scattered local craft industries, there exist modern industrial factories across the country.
Industrail Zones
1. North central zone, has factories producing the following categories of products namely drinks, processed food, textiles, cars etc.
2. South Eastern, which include the Niger Delta region have refineries, petrochemical factories, construction products, drinks, chemicals, boat making industries among others
3. Western zone, construction products, drinks, processed food, chemicals, textile, boat, engineering tools etc
4. Mid Western zone processed wood products, boats, petroleum products etc.
Major Cities
Lagos
Lagos is the former capital city of Nigeria. It is the city with the largest human population in Nigeria, the population is estimated to be about 14 million. Lagos is metropolitan and accessible by land, sea and Air. It has grown to become the commercial capital of Nigeria’s, the busiest International airport and seaports are located in Lagos.
Port Harcourt
Is the largest city in the Niger Delta region. It is also Nigeria’s number one city for petrochemical activities. Port Harcourt is home to two refineries and one petrochemical, plant. Port Harcourt has at least three international seaports and one international Airport.
Kano
Is reputed to be 1000 years old. The majority of the inhabitants are Moslem Hausas. Kano city is connected to the rest of the world by rail, land and international Airport. It is a center of trade in agricultural and industrial products in the Northern part of Nigeria.
Ibadan
Is the second largest city in Africa. It is also the largest traditional Negro city in the world. Ibadan is located in the heart of the cocoa and kola nut belts of Nigeria. Ibadan is a significant industrial center in the Western region of Nigeria and home to the oldest University in Nigeria as well as a number of research institutions.
Enugu
Is the coal city in Nigeria, very famous for its coalmines. It was the headquarters of the south provinces of Nigeria and later Eastern Nigeria. In the late 1930s a rail line was constructed to transport coal to Port Harcourt for further shipment abroad. It is a typical Igbo city.
Onitsha
Is located at the banks of river Niger. It is a commercial city with the largest market in West Africa.
Calabar
Calabar is the headquarters of the present Cross River State. In Calabar you have an international Airport and seaport. Calabar is home to Nigeria’s Premier export processing zone. Indeed it is a very important Eco tourism center in Nigeria.
